ABOUT US
EMERGENCY is an independent organisation founded in Italy in 1994. We provide free, high-quality healthcare to victims of war, poverty and landmines. We are committed to promoting a culture of peace, solidarity and respect for human rights. Since 1994, EMERGENCY has treated more than 10 million people in 18 different countries. We do not just provide surgical and medical care – we also build hospitals, and train local doctors and nurses to work in them.

The majority of our projects are carried out in vulnerable areas where war and lack of investment have destroyed local health facilities. In our hospitals, we prioritise the training of local doctors, nurses, and midwives. We strongly believe that providing sustainable healthcare means training medical and non-medical staff who can continue to provide free, high quality healthcare after we leave. Our objective is to hand over our hospitals to local staff and authorities once they become self-sustaining.
EMERGENCY Austria is the Austrian affiliate of EMERGENCY.
EMERGENCY Austria supports EMERGENCY through volunteering
activities and fundraising.
